 General Health PLAN OF ACTION

 DESCRIPTION

foods and herbs for your diet

   CALORIES

Plan on a diet of 1200 to 2000 calories per day

   AIM FOR A

  BALANCE

        OF:

40% healthy carbohydrates such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables

30% lean protein such as chicken and fish. Fish has the least amount of fat and

       cholesterol.

30% unsaturated fat such as olive oil, walnuts, salmon and soybeans which

        are rich in omega-3

Saturated fats are solid at room temperature and usually includes animal lard,  solid cooking shortening and most butters. Referenced as hydrogenated in product labels.

Unsaturated fats are liquid at room temperature such as liquid shortenings and liquid margarine and are labeled non-hydrogenated. Your body uses unsaturated fats as    fuel to feed your muscles.

Avoid fried foods because they retain fat. Bake or broil in a broiler pan or grill to allow the fats to drip into the pan.

Statistics from medical research studies:

Based on a report from FC&A Medical Publishing, restricting fat intake to less than 30% of daily calorie intake will result in 42,000 deferred deaths from coronary heart disease, prostate and breast cancer each year and would add additional years of life.

FOODS THAT PRODUCE A HEALTHY AND LEAN BODY

  • Fill up on fiber-rich foods, fruits, fresh vegetables and nuts, broccoli, cheese, low-fat dairy products and spinach which is also rich  in vitamins  C and E. To help with your diet and health eat an apple each day to help satisfy your hunger. Uncooked foods provide vitamin rich, minerals, amino acids and enzymes; include algae and wheat grass which provides protein and carbohydrates.  Olives and virgin olive oil are rich in antioxidants and helps block inflammation.

  • Cold water, low-mercury fish such as farmed Atlantic salmon, mackerel, herring, tuna, sardines and fish  oil are good for several health conditions. Sockeye salmon, farmed trout  and flounder are rich in omega-3 and omega-6

  • Fresh green leafy vegetables, colored vegetables, fruits, barley beans, oats salads and white meat should be included in your diet each day

  • Eat organic foods such as tomatoes which produce 97% more antioxidant falconoid then regular tomatoes

  • The bonus is all of these foods help prevent cancer, lower your cholesterol and blood pressure, reduce body fat and reduce your chance of heart disease. For additional cholesterol protection include the following: niacin, policosanol, guggul, tocotrienols and red yeast rice. for more information go to www.secondopionnewsletter.com

  • Dr. Robert Rowen recommends a super-food (grain) called "CHIA". It is a tiny seed from South America can be consumed directly, used in soups, salads or most any food. Based  on extensive studies Chia will provide additional energy, endurance, lower blood pressure, lower hemoglobin A1C and fibrinogen. It is protective against cancer and heart disease. It is rich in antioxidant flavanols, omega-3, protein, magnesium, iron, calcium, potassium, boron vitamins B, C, and fiber. Chia seeds have a long proven history as being an energy food.  Dr. Rowan recommends buying it from www.arizonachia.com for around $6.00 per pound.

FLUID

The experts are now saying to stay hydrated by drinking at least 8 glasses of liquids per day, where any part of the 8 glasses may be water, include one glass of green tea each day in your liquid diet.

BREAKFAST

 Update 7/5/2008

Wake up hungry is a sign that you are losing weight while sleeping by not eating anything after 7 PM. The experts say to eat a hardy breakfast to prevent hunger during the day. To stay on your diet, the following is recommended: un-sweetened whole grain cereal with fruit, berries and skim milk or oatmeal, egg- white omelet with whole-wheat toast.

Skipping a healthy breakfast is the same as jogging in cowboy boots rather than running shoes. (Quote from FC&A Medical Publishing)

                                               NEW INFORMATION 7/5/2008

I have switched to the following breakfast and my energy level has doubled.

1. Whole grain Corn Flakes, Total and Raisin Bran all mixed together covered with blue

berries, strawberries and reduced-fat milk.

2. One slice of whole wheat cheese toast

3. Two or three slices of tomatoes

4. Coffee, a glass of bottled ice water and orange juice.

The cereal is mixed in a large container that has a secure lid to keep it fresh. The corn flakes are mainly used for taste. If you have a problem with high cholesterol you can substitute Multi Grain Cheerios. If you don't like taking vitamins like my dance partner, try this breakfast. Take a look at the labels on the cereal boxes for information about which vitamins you will be taking.

Avoid

ATTENTION DIABETES PATIENTS

Diabetes patients: from a report by The New England Journal of Medicine by exercising 150 minutes per

week and following the diet listed above and by reducing your sugar and salt intake the 20.8 million Americans currently affected with the disease could cease taking diabetes medications

The report by The New England Journal of Medicine also stated the following

with regular exercise and selected diet:

Diabetes Type 1 will reduce the amount of insulin required to keep blood sugar in check

Diabetes Type 2 will improve the body's ability to use the insulin  which will make you less

                                               dependent on the medication

Diabetes is rough on your heart as it destroys your heart tissue which causes the heart muscle to swell and makes pumping very difficult. Dr. Robert Rowen recommends "Regeneration of the heart in Diabetes by Selective Copper Chelation." This is a new breakthrough based on extensive studies to help diabetes and heart patients.  For more information call 1-800 728 2288 or contact Advanced Bionutritionals on the web or www.abcmt.org

Before starting an exercise program discuss it with your doctor and

HERBS AND MINERALS FOR HEART HEALTH

  • Shell fish are high in Omega-3 fatty acids for the heart and lowers blood pressure

  • Fish: salmon, mackerel, herring, sardines, tuna, cold water low-mercury fish and fish oil

  • Beer is an antioxidant but there are herbs and minerals that will do a better job of clearing your arteries, such as those listed in the table above. Excessive alcohol intake will lead to liver damage and heart failure

  •  Include 100 mg of pure CoQ10 and 2.4 grams daily of red yeast rice extract and placebo groups  called "cholestin".  This combination was used in a double blind study which proved that  there was a 17% (LDL) cholesterol reduction. (Dr. James Roppe of Tufts University School of Medicine)

  • Based on a study by "The Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social"  avocados will lower cholesterol by 17% if eaten every day for one week.

NEW DATA TO LOWER CHOLESTEROL and TRIGLYCERIDES BASED ON

14 CLINICAL STUDIES By Robert J. Rowen, M.D.

A nutrient discovered in Cuba.    It's called policosanol, and it's an all natural vegetable wax found in the tropical sugar cane plant.  This nutrient helps to unclog arteries which makes it helpful to support your heart. Based on the reports this formula will reduce bad (LDL) cholesterol by 16% while  increasing the good cholesterol (HDL). Daily dose for six weeks will result in a 16% cholesterol reduction.

How to clear out arteries to prevent heart, arthritics and joint problems

 (from Humana Insurance Co.)

·   Diet low in saturated trans fat and must be nutritious

·   Must manage stress

·   Half an aspirin per day with warm water which inhibits the enzyme system that causes clotting and  reduces heart attacks by 44% (This is a new discovery)

·   One glass of red wine with dinner (Red wine contains resveratrol which triggers sirtuin genes capable    of repairing damage to DNA. Global research was done to prove this.

                    Reference www.biocentrichealth.com)

·   Two grams of omega-3 fats per day and 100 mg of pure CoQ10 and one glass of green tea

·   Lower blood pressure below 120/80

·   Eat nine servings of fruits and vegetables per day and one serving of tomato sauce and avocados

·   Lose weight to reduce pressure on your joints and stop smoking to help maintain a healthy  immune system

·   Reduce sodium intake to 1,600 mg per day

·   Take one tablespoon full of olive oil per day or one olive oil pill.

Based on a recent study it was determined that flossing your teeth on a regular basis will add years to your life. Inflamed gums  will release substances into your bloodstream that cause clogged arteries and lead to heart disease.

                 SYMPTOMS OF A HEART ATTACK

1.

Chest pain and shortness of breath

2.

Pain or discomfort in the jaw, neck or back

3.

Feeling weak, light-headed or faint

4.

Discomfort in the arms or shoulders

If any of the above conditions occur call 911 for immediate medical attention. To prevent blood clots take 325 mg of regular aspirin at once.

What not to do

  • High blood pressure will over-work the heart

  • High cholesterol will clog the arteries

  • Couch potatoes will have a sluggish circulatory system; obesity is the number one cause of heart disease because it leads to diabetes which increases the chances of heart failure Test your BMI.

  • Diabetes destroys your heart tissue, causes the muscle to swell and makes pumping very difficult

  • Stress can lead to blood clots and increases the aging process. Research studies prove that panic attacks trigger the release of hormones that can threaten your heart. Reducing negative emotions  is almost as good for the heart as diet and exercise.

  • Some heart drugs may cause more damage than good. Check it out with your doctor

  • Cigarette smokers have twice the number of heart attacks as non-smokers based on reports.

Compare the heart to an automobile

  engine

The heart is a muscular organ enclosed in a sac. Its function is to pump blood through the body. Like the oil pump in an automobile engine, the heart has its own blood supply. The automobile engine also has values that control the flow of fuel and exhaust. The heart has valves that control the flow of blood and to insure that blood flows in only one direction. The exhaust valve pumps the deoxygenated blood that is high in carbon dioxide to the lungs to receive a fresh supply of oxygen. The blood coming from the lungs to the heart is input to the heart by the intake valve. Compared to the engine this would be the valve that inputs a mixture of air and fuel. If the fuel line in an engine becomes clogged or is broken the engine will stop running. If the artery in the heart or body becomes clogged the flow of blood stops and a heart attack follows. The lungs are like the carburetor in the automobile as it mixes vaporized fuel with air;  the lungs mix oxygen and nutrients with the blood. The lungs also removes carbon dioxide and other waste products from the blood. For the smokers that inhale, you are adding an additive to your lungs that destroys its ability to cleanse the blood. It is equivalent to adding tar to your automobile's carburetor.

Brain Health by Nature City*and how to Prevent Alzheimer’s:

There is a clear connection to Alzheimer’s disease and inflammation. The progression of Alzheimer’s Disease

robs short-term memory then long-term memory and the ability to reason, plan, communicate and perceive.

Definition of Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s Disease begins where the nerve cells called neurons send messages along synapes (junctions or pathways between nerve cells) to other regions of the brain responsible for memory, rationalization, and sending commands to the rest of the body to process sensory input and movement. In Alzheimer patients certain protein based plaques called beta-amyloids form roadblocks on the synapes. This   causes the brain's communication system to shut down as cells misfire and eventually die. As the     nerve cells expire, twisted fibers or "tangles" of a protein called 'tau" build up inside them.

Cure for Alzheimer’s Disease

    1. Acetyholinesterase inhibiters like Aricept can help delay declines in mental function for two to ten years.

    2. Namenenda is a medication that targets glutamate, a chemical in the brain that helps with learning and memory functions.

    3. Researchers and doctors are investigating other medications that will cure or delay Alzheimer’s Disease.

Check the following website: h2u.com and link to Alzheimer.

         4. Dr, Robert Rowen reported that there is a procedure available that has reversed Alzheimer's disease

within minutes in 45 out of 50 patients treated. Some of the patients went from 0% to 90% reversal of

memory capabilities after receiving this procedure. The procedure must be administered by a qualified

doctor as the injection is to the spinal canal in the neck at the base of the skull. The results of this

procedure show that after three years there was no sign of regression.  A basic arthritic drug used is

etanercept with a trade name Enbrel.

         5. Dr. Rowen also reported that patients that are on Lipitor and other statins drugs to control cholesterol

have suffered memory loss. Based on research studies stress starves the brain of essential oxygen and

nutrients causing brain cells to die.

Nutrients and food for the brain  by Nature City*

Antioxidants:  nutrients in specific foods that prevent oxidation of fat molecules.  Oxidation process

is what produces free radical molecules that cause aging and degenerative diseases –including

Alzheimer’s. These foods include vitamin C and E.

  •  Spinach, blueberries, raspberries strawberries, sunflower seeds, green leafy vegetables, whole-grain cereals

  •  Peanut butter and nuts

  •  Potatoes, tomatoes, red cabbage

  •  Apples and walnuts

  •  Pinto beans, kidney, soybeans and black beans

  •  Olive oil, milk, eggs, meats and poultry

  •  Fish: Sockeye salmon, farmed trout  and flounder are rich in omega-3 and omega-6, herring, haddock, cod and mackerel

  •  Vimpocentine

  •  Blueberry

  •  Phosphatidyl serine is a brain booster

  • Bacopa monnieri  a wild herb is a proven brain booster and helps relieve stress

  • Alpha-Glyceryl Phosphorylcholine (Alpha- GPC) A building block for the brain which produces the chemical "neurotransmitters" that boosts cognitive performance

  • Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALC) produces key chemicals cause brain cells for better thinking and longer-lasting attention span

  •  Seanol is available as FibroBoost from Advanced Bionutritionals (1-800-728-2288);  it is a plant derived compound phytochemical for Alzheimer's or vascular diseases

  •  Ginkgo Biloba 50:1 widens the blood vessels which increases blood flow and is an antioxidant

  •  Omega 3 fatty acids cleanse the toxins that tend to build up in brain tissue and rebuilds healthy cellularprotein. The DHA and EPA in fish oil also helps. Doctors measured the level of fatty acids in blood samples from over 1,000 people with the average age of 75. This study showed that those with high levels of Omega 3 fatty acid DHA had a 48% reduced risk of having Alzheimer's disease.

  • Use real sugar rather then artificial sweeteners for your coffee or tea. A memory test of several  patients proved that artificial sweeteners caused memory loss. (FC&A Medical Publishing 2003)

  • An aspirin or ibuprofen each day is recommended by some doctors based on a study that showed inflamed brain tissue contributes to Alzheimer’s disease. (FC&A Medical Publishing 2003). Also based on research, people that took anti-inflammatory medications  reduced the risk of  contracting Alzheimer's by 50 to 75%.  The immune system clears out damaged tissue that  contains plaques and tangles found in Alzheimer's patients,  Richard Linchitz, M.D.

  • Research suggests that some hormones may improve your memory. In a controlled study, women   that took estrogen were 1/3 less likely to develop Alzheimer’s and for men testosterone was used. (FC&A Medical Publishing 2003)

  • Beta carotene can be obtained from carrots and other highly colored fruits and vegetables. Based on   a study conducted with 5,000 people, those that included diets with high beta carotene were less likely to have problems with attention span and other mental abilities. (FC&A Medical Publishing 2003)

SYMPTOMS OF A STROKE  by Dr. Ranit  Mishori 11/9/2008

1.

Speech becomes slurred or you are having trouble speaking or understanding others.

2.

Experience sudden weakness or numbness on one side of your body.

3.

Suddenly lose vision in one or both eyes.

4.

You have a sudden or severe headache.

5. You lose your balance, become faint or unstable.

If any of the above conditions occur call 911 for immediate medical attention. Ask to be taken to the nearest stroke treatment center in order to prevent permanent damage. Strokes are caused by blockage in an artery or arteries that carry blood to the brain. If not treated at once, permanent damage will occur such as the use of an arm, leg, speech or ability to understand depending on which part of the brain is damaged.

How to prevent having a stroke

1.

Maintain healthy blood pressure below 120/80

2.

Maintain normal blood-sugar levels by following a healthy low fat and low salt diet

3.

Limit alcohol intake and don't smoke

4.

Recommend  one aspirin per day with your doctors permission.

High risk factors for having a stroke

1. Atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries)

2. Diabetes

3. Heart disease

4. High blood pressure

5. High cholesterol

6. Smoking

The following is based on research by bobs-webdb service

Exercise the brain: with crossword puzzles, take a college course, learn how to use the computer, and increase social interaction. Use the 5 physical senses and emotional senses including dancing, boating, travel, time with friends, lovers and family. Add spice to your life by having fun, smile a lot and above all do whatever it takes to reduce stress. Exercise your brain like you exercise the muscles in your body to stay healthy and sharp.

Based on several reports the people that have a healthy spiritual relationship have been healed and   have a peace of mind that helps them cope with pain and stress.

Living a healthy life in terms of diet and exercise may increase one's life expectancy, but worry sure won't! if worry leads to ulcers just the opposite may be the case.

For every 1.0 increase in BMI, risk of Alzheimer's Disease is increased by 30%. Your BMI can be calculated by clicking.   Based on a research study at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, by staying physical fit will decrease the chance of getting Alzheimer's Disease and may delay the disease up to two years. Brain shrinkage was less pronounced in those in the research study that exercised.

The Journal of the American Medical Association reported that people that did regular workouts after suffering a stroke showed an  increase in activity  in the un-damaged parts of their brain which took  over for the damaged areas.

Research studies by University of Texas show that exercise improves memory, concentration, abstract reasoning and will delay Alzheimer's Disease.  Aerobic exercise increases blood flow to the brain, which nourishes brain cells and promotes the growth of new neurons (brain cells) in the hippocampus- the   part of the brain that controls memory and learning. Please go to the Fitness Page for an exercise program that will help with memory problems.

Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? (reference Luke 12:25).

Avoid the following: high blood sugar, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, poor circulation, infections, toxins, too much alcohol, ruts, stress, unsafe medications, drugs and smoking..

The brain is in three parts-fore, mid and hind-protected by

three membranes called the meninges. The nervous system

sends signals to the brain as a means of warning signals that

something is wrong. The brain contains tissue that must be

protected from toxins that causes Alzheimer’s. It is also

important to keep the blood supply going to the brain to

 keep it healthy.
